Boycott Old Dutch Foods

There's a problem with your potato chips ...

Canadians believe in fair play.
We're honest, straight-forward and we don't think it's right to take advantage of people - especially when they're feeling vulnerable.

But that's just what potato chip maker Old Dutch Foods has been doing with its workers.
Old Dutch has been trying to use the threat of the growing recession to force 170 workers at it Calgary plant to swallow a sub-standard contract.

The company is still making money - lots of it. But managers have decided to take advantage of the economic insecurity that people are feeling by saying "my way or the highway."

When the workers said "let's keep negotiating," the company locked them out and forced them onto the picket line.

What ever happened to fair treatment and fair play?

You can help remind Old Dutch that Canadians value fairness by supporting the locked out workers.

Old Dutch sells chips under the following brand names: Old Dutch, Presidents Choice, No Name, Great Value, Compliments & Safeway Blue Bags.

Please don't buy any of these products until Old Dutch has ended the lock out and reached a fair deal with its workers!

What do Old Dutch workers want? Fairness and Safety!

Say No to Old Dutch!
Despite the economic downturn, Old Dutch is a highly-profitable company. But we understand that Alberta is in a recession, so we're not asking for much.
  • Minimum hours - We want some guarantees of minimum hours so we can plan our lives and keep food on our tables.
  • Food safety - We want to be involved in making sure that the product that leaves the plant and ends up on your table is completely safe.
  • Sick leave - Proper sick leave provisions are just common sense in a plant that produces food for public consumption. Nobody wants sick employees dragging themselves into work and handling food because they can't afford to miss a day's wages.
  • Union security - The company has been trying to starve our union out by refusing to deduct dues from all paycheques like employers do in almost all other unionized workplaces. This union-busting tactic has to stop.
  • Wages - In most cases, the difference between our position on wages and the company position on wages can be measured in nickels and dimes. Surely, such a small divide can be bridged at the bargaining table!
