We will deal with union myths, common likes and dislikes of the union along with the roles and responsibilities of being a steward with UFCW Local 401. We will discuss the grievance procedure and you will get the information you need to be able to represent the membership at your workplace. We will also deal with organizing, collective bargaining, and some basic health and safety training.

We go into much more specific discussion about safety conditions in the workplace, legislative requirements, the role of the Health and Safety committee, workplace inspections, H&S control programs, and will spend time understanding how work affects the body and how to stay safe while at work.

Violence is increasing in society - domestic violence, reduced tolerance of others, and violence in the workplace by customers, clients and co-workers. Unfortunately, for far too long this problem has been accepted as "part of the job."
Identifying and assessing risks, then developing a violence prevention program are the first steps in controlling the occupational hazard.
