There are two kinds of direct representation available to you.
Most work places have "shop stewards". They are volunteer co-workers who have offered to be the "eyes and ears" of the Union in your workplace. Check your Union bulletin board to find out who they are. Ask for their presence if you are called into a meeting with management.
The Union also employs full time staff to serve your interests. Doug O'Halloran, the President, is elected from and by the membership to serve your interests full time. Theresa McLaren, the Secretary Treasurer, is also an elected member, who directs the Union staff on a day to day basis in her full time position.
Tom Hesse, Executive Assistant to the President, works on a variety of special projects in the area of Education and Communication. He is also involved in some major collective bargaining, internal Union relations, organizing campaigns and a variety of other matters.
We have full time in house legal counsel, Kevin Tamblyn, a worker's compensation advocate, Loren Keister, a negotiator, Al Olinek, and office manager, Jerry Sullivan. Our director of Education is Micky Runcer. Don Crisall's special responsibilities include organizing campaigns.
Support staff are a critical component of the local Union, ensuring your needs are met in the Calgary, Edmonton and Lethbridge offices.
Your day to day issues are handled by Union representatives assigned to your workplace. Contact them with respect to your problems at work. You can find out who your Union representative is below:
